Mòshàng sāng, or the "Mulberry Trees on the Brink," may be an unfamiliar name to many people. However, to those who love poems and enjoy Tang and Song poetry, this name is quite familiar. It is a description of a beautiful place in the famous poem "Ascending the Stork Tower" by Wang Zhihuan. The line goes, "The white sun had set on yonder hill, / The Yellow River was flowing into the sea; / Here, the view extends for miles around, / Let us climb one floor higher." "Ascending the Stork Tower" is one of the representative works of Chinese literature in the Tang Dynasty, known as "a masterpiece of all time," and this particular line that describes the scenery of Mulberry Trees on the Brink has become deeply embedded in our minds.
