「 hold 」的中文意思除了握住、举行….等基本意思，还有什麽其他的英文用法呢?当hold跟其他词汇组成短语时，可以有很多种意思，比方说等一下、稍安勿躁、且慢…等等。

to have in the hand 握住(拥有在手中)

ex. Hold my beer.

把我的酒拿好。

ex. I wanna hold your hand.

我想握住你的手。

to have a position or distinction.保有一个位置或区别

ex. He held the world record for donut eating for 3 years!

他保有吃甜甜圈的世界纪录三年了!

ex. She holds the top position in the company.

他在公司保持于领先地位。

to restrain, to hold something back 克制

ex. Hold your fire!

停火!停止射击!

ex. He has trouble holding his temper.

他很难控制他的脾气。

= It’s difficult for him to control his anger.

to carry out (like an event) 执行

ex. The company is holding a conference tomorrow.

公司明天要召开会议。

ex. We held an event at the concert hall last year.

去年我们在音乐厅举办了一个活动。

to hold one’s breath 屏住呼吸

ex. How long can you hold your breath?

你能憋气多久?

ex. He held his breath until his face turned red!

他屏住呼吸直到他的脸变红了!

另一个意思：

ex. Don’t hold your breath. ( It’s going to take a long time.)

你别当真了!(那要花很多时间)

to hold (one’s) horses 稍安勿躁.等一下.且慢

表示你太热情了，冷静一下，克制一下你的热情或情绪

ex. Hold your horses ; there will be plenty of time celebration when the project is finished.

稍安勿躁!当计划完成时，会有很多时间可以庆祝。

ex. Whoa, hold your horses. We’re not done yet.

哇 等等!等等!我们还没完成。
